What is the difference between Counselling and Spiritual direction?

 

The simplest difference is in Counselling we set goals and are problems and solutions focused. It's something you usually begin because something in life is not working or feeling right. It is a place for personal growth, discovery and learning.

 

Spiritual direction is divine relationship and spirituality focused and may include conversations about wonder, beliefs, experiences, bringing problems into relationship with the divine healer etc.

In counselling conversations I welcome your meaning making, and spirituality, and can include some of the spiritual direction skills and resources if this is something you would like me to do.

Do you have to be religious to have spiritual direction?

 

Spiritual direction is for anyone who is wanting to enhance their connection with Divine presence however they understand this.  I have met with people for spiritual direction who are members of faith communities and with those who have no religious or faith affiliation.

​I have chronic nightmares, can Dreamwork help me with this?

Dreamwork is a respectful process of listening to and exploring your own symbolic understanding.

​

There is evidence that expressing difficult dreams reduces their intensity and frequency. In groups of war veterans where people have told dreams related to their Post Traumatic Stress, they have found their dreams have moved from literal repetition of past events to a more symbolic representations of the feelings experienced and the dreams reduced in frequency and intensity.

How much do you charge per session?

​

My counselling rate is $150 per 55 minute appointment. If you are unable to pay that I'm happy to have a conversation with you about what you are able to afford, any funded counselling options you may be eligible for and if needed negotiate a rate or payment plan which you are able to pay.

​

I offer a sliding scale for spiritual direction $95-150 per 55 minute appointment.
